what a week it has been |
it's not easy catching up on over 30 years! vicky and i spent just over a week together, my jaw and ears hurt, all we did was talk, talk, talk, go out, talk, talk, talk, go out, and talk some more.
this is how the week went:
wednesday afternoon: vicky lands at the airport, i bring her to my house, we talk all the way home, kath comes for dinner, we all talk, kath goes home, vicky and i talk till almost midnight.
thursday: we talk for a few hours, i work for about 2 hours, we talk and talk some more. we talked so much we never got out of the house!
friday: i work for a couple of hours, we talk and talk. go out to dinner and then to flex to see miss frankie perform. when the show was over we went to another gay bar to talk some more! finally got home at 3:00 am saturday!
saturday: spent the whole damned day trying to recover from friday but kept on talking. did discover that we are both too old to stay out all night.
sunday: met miss frankie at the rainbow lounge for brunch (with live entertainment), went to another bar for 1 drink, spent the day talking until my "lovaaa" as kathryn says came to pick us up for dinner. continued to talk all evening.
monday: total rerun of saturday but we did go out for dinner. drove to frank's to get my hair cut, came home with all of it still in place!
Tuesday: AWESOME; spent the day talking of course. went to the flamingo to see gladys knight, what a great show. then we talked some more.
wednesday: our last full day together, guess what we did? that's right, we talked. i can't understand why we don't have laryngitis!
today: up at 6:30 and talking! vicky had to be at the airport for her noon flight into sacramento and then her 2 hour drive into chico. dropped her at the airport, we both cried.
all in all, this was such a wonderful week, can't wait to rest up and do it again in a couple of months! it's like we gapped most of the 30 something years and now it is time to look to the future. i love ya vicky. |

i'm so excited and i just can't hide it.... |
i found out yesterday that my niece vicky, who i have not seen in over 30 years, is flying into vegas tomorrow to spend a few days with me. it has been just over a year since we found each other and we have been talking on the phone every couple of weeks or so. it feels so wierd to know that we are family and yet almost complete strangers since it has been so many years since we have been together. i can't wait to see vicky so that we can meet each other and start catching up on over 30 years of each others lives. vicky and i have already agreed to play it by ear however i do know that we will be attending a gladys knight performance to celebrate vicky's b-day. |

gas prices |
gas prices have gone so high that i did something yesterday that i never do; i paid cash for gas. a local station (funnys) was offering a 5 cent per gallon savings for cash and an additional 10 cents off per gallon if you bought a car wash. i'm glad i didn't get the car wash since i got rained on this morning but i was happy to pay only $2.74 (cough cough) per gallon. |

what do you call it when you are over 30? |
this has been bothering me for a few weeks now. it seems to be ok to say you are dating when you are in your twenties but what about after that? when a "couple" are in their late forties or even their fifties is it still dating? please don't tell me that they are boyfiend and girlfriend. lady friend or man/gentleman friend sounds too old and "friend" just sounds too cold. perhaps people shouldn't even date after 30, maybe they should just resign to spending the rest of their natural lives alone. |

ooh, and i have a date tonight! |
Cancer Cancer June 21 - July 21 Romantic relationships take on a fairytale aura, dear Cancer, bringing up the kind of desire, passion, and sense of unity associated with Lancelot and Guinevere. Therefore, this should be a wonderful day to schedule an intimate evening with a romantic partner. You could feel so much in tune with your friend that you may come with the exact same words at the exact same time. Enjoy this wonderful feeling - but don't lose sight of reality. |

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
one incoming call just made my whole day. every year my region holds an "annual regional meeting", sometimes we actually have 3 or 4 per year! anyway, this years meeting was scheduled for september 21st in slc, utah (they are usually held here in las vegas). for some unknown reason i have been putting off the purchase of my plane ticket. my regional director's office just called and they have overbooked the meeting! they were actually asking for volunteers to not go to the meeting. guess who volunteered not to go!!!!! |

sometimes it is good to say goodbye |
so this weekend was a major yardwork event. my front yard used to contain numerous cactus and one extremely large pine tree; not any more. i have a couple of small but very pretty rose trees that i think i will have planted where the pine tree once stood. i present before (jan 2005) and after (this morning) pictures. |

i definately need help from somebody/anybody; i have swamp mouth! i don't know what else to call it, all i know is that my mouth tastes nasty from the time i wake up to the time i go to bed. i called my tech at laser concepts and she told me that this is indeed a side effect of quitting the cig habit. the good news, according to her, is that it only lasts the first 4 weeks. yeah, that means only 2 more weeks for me.
so help me, i will try any idea or suggestion you give because right now i am coming close to brushing all of the enamel off of my teeth! last night i even ate raw garlic thinking it would help, so much for my thoughts! PLEASE HELP |

sometimes things are worthy of praise |
because i buy so many office supplies i have a "perks" card from office max. whether you shop in the store, on line or on the phone they track your purchases and send you one of their credit cards four times a year each equals 1% of whatever you have spent. many time during the year they send out coupons, etc. a few days ago i got a coupon in the mail which would save me $40 off of a total puchase of $200 or more. no problem, i went on line and ordered my needed office supplies and saved $40 and got free delivery. at the price of gas today, i say that's a GREAT deal and i still have a card for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more. i love office max! |

can you take just a little more? |
yesterday i blogged about an e-mail that i sent to ashley furniture. well, today i got a (pretty generic) reponse and i must admit i was quite surprised. Here is what i got:
Dear DeDe, Thank you for contacting Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc. located in Arcadia, WI. I apologize for the service that you received. We do take pride in our products and our employees. However, the most important is to make the consumer feel comfortable. If you would like to provide me with your name, address, daytime phone number, the stores name, address and phone number where you had unsatisfactory service, I can forward your information to the Marketing Specialist that directly deals with that store. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
Mary Ashley Internet Communications
needless to say, i responded...........
Mary,
Thank you for responding. My information is:
DeDe ______ ---- _________ Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89149 702-___-____ or 702-___-____ or 702-___-____
The store I purchased at was:
Ashley Furniture 3130 N. Rainbow Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89108 702-367-4663
While I have provided the information that you requested I do not believe that you understood my complaint or my aggravation. The people in the store are ok, considering the sales man doesn't understand the term "solid wood". My complaint is with:
1) the first delivery guys (6/14/05)told me to call customer service when I pointed out a scratch and then left a huge mess in my front yard for me to clean up.
2) while my tables were delivered 6/14/05, I had to have techs out on 7/9/05 and 8/1/05 because the company "requires a second opinion" when something is reported as being wrong with your furniture.
3) I did not get replacement tables until 9/5/05 and one of them is scratched also (please note that I paid an extra $107.07 for these tables). By the way, I had been fighting with customer service since August because they did not want to replace all of the tables. Please check with them by calling 702-643-9500 as each and every call with Carmen was documented by her in your company computer.
4) when I called customer service on 9/5/05 I was told that a tech would be out on 10/8/05.
Bottom line... I buy tables in May (5/22/05) and by October (10/8/05) I MAY have tables that are free of scratches. This all boils down to Ashley furniture being cheap and not well made as their television commercials would have us believe. I feel as though I have been cheated and lied to. I will never again shop at your store and I will tell everyone that I know not to shop there either. Please make sure that I get some sort of reply to this e-mail.
Can you say restitution?
DeDe
i truly doubt that i will ever get a response to this e-mail, but then again who knows! |

more ashley furniture |
and so the saga continues...my new tables were delivered today, i like them but that should not be a surprise since i picked them out. again, i got a coffee table and two end tables. when the delivery guys brought in the coffee table i immediately noticed that two of the legs had small chunks of wood missing from them. is this some kind of a bad joke or conspiracy against me? i told the delivery guys that the table was not acceptable and they right away let me know that they could "fix the problem". You can still see the "problem" plus the deep scratch on the top of the coffee table that i noticed an hour or so later. i was told that i have 3 days to report any problem.
i called the ashley "service department" and their tech will be out on October 8th. please bear in mind that i bought my original tables on 5/22, they were delivered on 6/14/05 and this is 9/6. with any luck, by 10/8 i may have a coffee table that looks decent (i hope).
in the mean time i sent one long and not so nice e-mail to ashley furniture and demanded to be contacted. any bets on whether they will call me or not? |
