tim |
yesterday afternoon i attended the viewing and vigil for my nephew tim. i had been sick with nerves for a week but felt a strange sense of calm come over me when i walked into the mortuary. i am not a person who takes open caskets well but something was different. tim was in his favorite hawaiian shirt with a pack of cigarettes in his pocket and a small bottle of jack daniels (his favorite) by his side. he looked so peaceful. my niece christy was the first family member to speak, even through the tears she kept going as if she were drawing strength from tim. her daughter alexis, who is only eight, spoke next. i was so proud of that little girl, she stood so strong in front of a nearly packed room, i never could have done that. the church deacon reminded everyone that while tim has passed away he will live on in our hearts forever. it was a beautiful service and truly a celebration of his life. today, the funeral and our last chance to say goodbye to the man that brought so much joy and laughter into our lives. rest in peace timmy. |
