celebration time
ok, last december is when i found out that i was a diabetic and that my blood pressure and cholesterol were through the roof. in january, i went to see a cardiologist (you have all heard me sing her praises) and she put me on meds for both my blood pressure and my cholesterol, and put me on a "diabetic diet". my blood pressure has gone down drastically and now averages about 108/68 as compared to decembers 184/114. i had some blood work done yesterday and the results were just faxed to me, fasten your seatbelts.... my total cholesterol is now at...are you ready for this? 123 YAHOO!!

smoke detectors, good or bad?
since they were first put in, i have always thought that smoke detectors were a great idea. this morning i am not so sure! i went to bed a little early last night because i hadn't slept well sunday night and i was absolutely exhausted. at 11:30 on the dot i heard a "chirp", unfortunately so did my two dogs and since they didn't know what it was they both had to bark. it happened again just a couple of minutes later, and then again and again and again. i haven't slept since 11:30 last night and i am feeling just a bit edgy this morning. i stopped at home depot to buy batteries on my way into the office and now i am waiting for my handy man to call me back; hopefully he can get to the house sometime today to change all of the flippin batteries so i can get some sleep tonight.

awesome staff!
i love my cardiologist and her staff. about a month ago i was in for a blood pressure check and i mentioned that i was out of samples and need a prescription, the nurse left the room and came back with her arms full (1 month supply of blood pressure medication and about three months worth of cholesterol meds). i just called to say i wanted to pick up a prescription for my blood pressure medication and the nurse said, "just come to the front counter, i will leave a one month supply there for you". i know that the drug companies keep the docs supplied (which is why prescriptions cost so damned much) but i can't believe how lucky i have been!

more "why"s
why is abbreviation such a long word and can it be abbreviated?

what was the best thing sliced bread?

if a book about failure doesn't sell, is it a success?

if a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages?

why do steam irons have a permanent press setting?

is it possible to be a closet claustrophobic?

should vegitarians really eat animal crackers?

do cemetary workers prefer to work the graveyard shift?

remember when?
remember when you were young and constantly asking "why?". when kath was in high school, she and jenny would ask questions like, "if sour cream is already sour why does it have an expiration date?". i personnaly think that they would sit for hours just trying to come up with questions like this. well, today i received a news letter with a "why ask why" column in it and here is part of it...

if corn oil comes from corn, where does baby oil come from?

how do they get deer to cross at that little yellow road sign that says, "deer crossing"?

does fuzzy logic tickle?

why do they call it a tv "set" when you only get one?

is it possible to be totally partial?

what's another word for thesaurus?

good questions??????

awesome software
today i ordered and installed an awesome new software that will allow me to do a full financial forecast for my clients in a matter of minutes. the plan can focus on retirement, college planning, disability and long term care. it prints out with an absolute ton of information and some pretty spiffy graphics too!

i couldn't believe my ears
late yesterday afternoon i went for an eye exam. my last exam and new pair of glasses happened on june 3rd of last year, but as you get older (and with my diabetes) your eyes can change rapidly. i have noticed lately that there are a lot of things that i just cannot see with my current glasses no matter how close or far.

so i sit down in the exam chair and the doctor says, "how come you are back when you were just here in june"? and i respond that, "i have just been diagnosed with diabetes and my glasses just don't seen to be working the way that they should". the doctor then asks what my blood sugars have been running and i explain that i have only been on meds for a couple of weeks and that every time i test my sugar level is in a different spot. at this point he says, "i can do the exam now but within a couple of weeks you won't be able to see, let's wait a couple of weeks and let your sugars level out a bit and then do the exam". NO CHARGE! my god, there is an honest doctor in the world and i found him!

i feel so sorry for the women who live in this state. you would think that as a nation we would be moving forward not backward.

has there ever been...
has there ever been just one thing that you secretly wished you could do but couldn't? i was reminded of mine yesterday afternoon while my honey and i sat watching a luther vandross concert that was taped in london sometime in 1995. i don't think that i have ever admitted my secret wish to anyone before although i have had this wish since i was a young teenager. i have always wished i could sing. when i was young i used to dream about taking voice lessons and actually learing to carry a tune. i think that this is the one thing i regret about my life.
