goodbye |
everyone who knows me knows just how much i love my dogs and how sick banjo (the oldest) has been for the past year or so. yesterday afternoon his breathing became very labored and inconsistent. i called kathryn to see if she knew of anything i could do to make him more confortable until i could get him to his vet today, i knew in my heart that the time had come to put him down. being the angel she is, she called her bosses and they gave up their sunday afternoon with their kids and family to meet us at their office. kath came to pick up banjo and i and we were off to see dr. jamie. the staff and doctor were absolutely wonderful and compassionate, dr. jamie let me hold banjo as she gave him the necessary shot to put him to sleep. this was the hardest thing i have had to do in many years and i don't know if i could have done it without kathryn by my side. my banjo and i truly had had guardian angels yesterday and i know that he is now resting peacefully.
this morning i woke up at 5:10 am to the sound of really heavy rain, went into the kitchen to start the coffee pot, it turned on but would not brew. i found this kind of ironic since banjo hated the rain with a passion because he did not like to get his feet wet and he woke up most mornings when he heard the coffee pot turn itself on at 5:30. i went and stood out in the rain to say my goodbyes to the little angel that stole my heart ten and a half years ago. |
